Become an Archaeologist for the Day!
|Date:||Oct 28th, 2016 - Oct 28th, 2016 |
|Time:||10:00am - 2:00pm |
Become an archaeologist for the day! Join the Office of the State Archaeologist as they survey a historic site associated with the Mormon trails through Van Buren County. Participants will meet at the Keosauqua boat ramp. The site is associated with the first exodus from Nauvoo when the travelers were bogged down for two weeks due to bad weather. Participants will learn archaeological survey techniques, like walking the area in a systematic fashion while marking the locations of the abundant surface artifacts with pin flags. No artifacts will be collected during this survey. This is an official Des Moines River Water Trails event cosponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Office of the State Archaeologist and Jefferson County Conservation. Registration will be limited to 15 participants. Pre-registration is required for this free program. For more information or to register, please call 641-472-4421 or email email@example.com
