Jul 15th - Jul 23rd » Van Buren County Fair

Enjoy a week of fun at the Van Buren County Fair! Featuring: Fair Queen Contest, 4-H and FFA exhibit all week, kiddie amusement rides (Thur.-Sat.), Pedal Pull, Open Show Exhibits, Truck & Tractor Pull, Stumptown & The Boys Concert and more. 

Food vendors include Sweet & Saucy, the Methodist Food Stand, Sweet P's, Cheese Curds, the Myers Family and two food booths in the midway.

  • 6:30pm - Queen, Jr. Miss, & Princess Contest, Roberts Building 

Tuesday, July 17 

  • 4-H Judging, Roberts Building

  • Open Class Judging, Roberts Building

Thursday, July 19

  • 5 & 8pm - (free!) Bob Bohm Family Magic Show, Horse/Swine Barn
  • 6pm - 4-H/FFA Horse Show, Grandstand (if raining, show barn)

Thursday 7/19 - Saturday 7/21

  • Plein Air at the Fair, Painting Contest. Contestants must pre-register and pay the $25 entry fee online at VillagesFolkSchool.com by Friday, July 13th. Registration Thursday, July 19th from 5-6:30pm at the grandstand. Canvases stamped at registration. Bring your own supplies: Easel, canvas, paper, paints, pastels, frame, etc. All art pieces must be created on the fairgrounds between 5pm Thursday, July 19th through 5pm Saturday, July 21st. All art pieces will be released at 7pm. Cash Prizes, 1st Place: $300, 2nd Place: $200 and 3rd Place: $100.

Friday, July 20

  • 7pm - Twin States Truck & Tractor Pull (Grandstand)
    Pit admission $20. Grandstand admission $10, age 6-12; $5 and 5 & under; Free.

Saturday, July 21  

  • 8pm - Stumptown, followed by The Boys (Grandstand)
    Grandstand admission $10, age 6-12; $5 and 5 & under; Free. One ticket covers both shows; armband is required for the beer tent area. Concert sponsored by Farm Bureau.

Sunday, July 22 

  • Kids Day, games and vendors all day! Baby contest at 10am, Hawkeye Pedal Pull at 2pm
  • 5:30pm - Goehring Brothers Ranch Rodeo (Grandstand)
    Pit admission $20. Grandstand admission $10, age 6-12; $5 and 5 & under; Free.

The Villages Folk School specializes in providing learning experiences in traditional arts and skills, while drawing upon the uniqueness of each of the eleven historic Villages of Van Buren County Iowa. Classes are held in peaceful rural settings so students can return to a simpler time and witness the importance of the artisan in village-life. Pre-registration is required for classes.

Jul 27th - Jul 29th » Donkey Sorting Series

Friday 7-9pm: Donkeys will be numbered up and in pens. People will be able to just ride and a chance for anyone new to get their horses used to the donkey. No admission fee.

Saturday 11am-3pm: Full arena sort. All teams will be drawn, the number of rounds will be determined by the number of people. Teams of 3 people. $15 a person will enter you in all the rounds for the day. You will also need a $5 wristband if you are not camping. Sign up will be 10-10:45am. There will be a Jackpot round at the end of the practice rounds. This will cost $5 a person and each person can enter 3 times.

Jul 28th - Aug 4th » Great River Rumble! '18

Travel about 102 miles down two Midwestern Rivers!
You will paddle about 40 miles down one of the larger rivers in Iowa, the Des Moines. You will then enter the Mississippi River just below Keokuk. The trip down the Mississippi River will take you through two locks on your way to the final destination in historic Hannibal, MO.

Jul 31st » Safe & Healthy Kids Fair

The Annual Safe and Healthy Kids Fair is free and open to the public. Students who attend the fair that goes to either Van Buren or Harmony Community School or is homeschooled in Van Buren County will receive a free school supply voucher and backpack. There will also be free dental screening, books, hygiene items, vision screening and much more!
