Aug 5th » Dump The Ducks

Paddle, Pedal & More will be having a "Dump the Ducks" contest, on the lower Des Moines River Water Trail. Everyone will meet at 9am to sign waivers and pay. The registration fee is $10 per person for those who rent their equipment. $15 per person for those who bring their own. Ducks will be dumped from the footbridge earlier in the morning. After reaching the Bonaparte Ramp you will be shuttled back to Bentonsport and they will tally the scores. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. No nets or other catching devices are allowed. Kayak rental $25 / Canoe rental $30 / Tandem Kayak $45. Please, no youngsters under the age of four. Text  "Dump the Ducks" with your email address to 641-919-9414 regarding registration information.

"GEODE PADDLE"

REGISTRATION IS FULL FOR THIS EVENT!

Geodes are nature’s treasure chest! Participants will be paddling this beautiful stretch of river between stops on the rock bars as we search for geodes and fossils. This is an official Des Moines River Water Trails event cosponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural esources and Jefferson County Conservation. There is no cost for the paddle, however, Pre-registration is required and participation is limited. Canoes will be available for loan if participants do not have their own canoe or kayak. "STAND UP PADDLEBOARD CLINIC"

Meet at the Beach at Lacey-Keosauqua State Park Beat the heat and try something new this summer at the Stand Up Paddleboard Clinic. You can reserve your hour session for some paddling as the day winds down. The session will open with directions from a certified instructor with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources then participants will be able to put their skills to the test on the water. Sessions will begin at 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Any participants under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. This is an official Des Moines River Water Trails event cosponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Jefferson County Conservation. There is no cost for the clinic, however, Preregistration is required and participation is limited. The clinic is open to all but children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Special event celebrating the late Wendell Mohr's life, work and history.  Wendell Mohr will be honored by sharing his life history and artwork in specialty shops and the Mason House B&B  from 10am–5pm. An expanded exhibit of some of his original artwork will be at the Stone House from 10am–4pm. Tour Wendell's studio, the Vernon School, from 1-4pm. No admission fee.

Villages Folk School will host a Plein Aire Painting Class with John Preston 9am-4:30pm. You can register for the class at www.villagesfolkschool.com

Haury-Artz, Archaeology Technician Specialist at the Office of the State, as she describes various prehistoric technologies. She will have materials to examine so participants can experiment with how they were used.
