Come celebrate with us as we host several special events throughout the month of December.
The Festival of Trees is always a favorite amongst hundreds of visitors and locals alike. It will be held Dec.6-8, 2013 at the Roberts Memorial Center in Keosauqua. This year’s theme is:"Cheery & Bright." You'll find beautifully decorated live Christmas trees, wreaths, table top trees, decorations and more. The hours for the Festival of Trees are: Friday 5-9pm, Sat. 9am-8pm, Sun. 12-3pm. There will be live entertainment throughout the weekend. All proceeds benefit Christmas for Kids in Van Buren County.
To kick off the holiday season, the Keosauqua Chamber is sponsoring Breakfast with Santa at the Keosauqua Fire Station in downtown Keosauqua from 8-11am with a Free-Will donation breakfast including scrambled eggs, french toast sticks, smiley-face potatoes, sausage, milk, juice & coffee. Everyone, of all ages, is invited to attend! Get the kids' pictures taken with Santa for just $5.
Take advantage of Small Business Saturday, when local retailers will host holiday open houses with special sales, discounts and refreshments. Three people will win Keo Bucks at the end of the day! “One-day only” coupon books/registration slips will be available at the breakfast and online at www.keosauqua.com.
Home Lighting Contests will be held in Keosauqua on Dec. 2, residents are asked to submit their name and address if they wish to be judged. Contact the Chamber office at 319-293-7767 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Keosauqua will have a Tour of Homes on Dec. 15. Tickets available at the Welcome Center 809 1st St.
Farmington will have a Cookie and Candy Sale on Dec. 7-8 from 9a-4pm, both days, in the EMS building at 208 S. 4th St.
Also on Dec. 7-8 (Sat. 8a-5p & Sun. 9a-4p) at the Farmington Community Center there will be a Bake Sale and Several Vendors with a large variety of holiday gifts ideas. Lunch will be served both days beginning at 11a and a quilt raffle will be held on Sunday at 4p.
On Dec. 7-8 & 14-15, Farmington will host a "Pioneer Home Driving Tour." Maps will be available at the Pioneer Historical Museum (next to Casey's.) The Museum will be open from 10a-4p with Christmas carolers at 2p on Dec. 15.
Stockport will host a free-will Soup Supper at 5p. on Dec. 14 at the Legion Hall. Entertainment will be provided by local children, there will be a wreath auction and Santa will visit at 6:30p.
Milton will have a free-will Soup Supper at the Legion Building at 5pm on Dec. 14. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will greet the children.
Bonaparte will host Christmas Connection on Saturday Dec. 7. Breakfast on Main Street will be held at the Opera House from 7-9am for a free will offering. Holiday Cookie Walk begins at 8am, also held at the Opera House. Bonaparte's Taste of History will be held Sat. Dec. 14 (this will be the final year for this event.) Experience this elegant 3-course candlelit dinner with a self-guided Tour of Homes. Reservations are required by calling 319-592-3400
The Enchanted Forest Walk will be held in Cantril Nov. 28-Dec. 31. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the holiday lights and displays along the walking trail in Waubonsie Park. The lights will be turned on Sun-Thurs 5-8pm and Fri & Sat 5-9pm. On Saturday Dec. 7, join them for a Soup Supper with Santa in the Township Hall from 5-8pm.
There will be a Soup Supper in the Lions building in downtown Birmingham on Saturday Dec. 7 from 5-7pm. Santa will be there from 6-7pm.
Bentonsport will host Christmas in the Historic District on Dec. 7 with shops open 10a-7pm with shop keepers dressed in period clothing. Main St. as well as the Historic Bridge will be lighted and decorated for the season. Enjoy a fun Scavenger Hunt throughout the Village from 4-6p. Prizes and refreshments will be served at the shelterhouse at 6:15pm. Visit www.greefstore.com for more details.
In Douds, on December 21, Santa's Helpers will host a Cookie & Candy Sale in the Community Center from 9a-12pm. Pre-orders are welcomed but not required by calling 319-293-3066 before Dec. 14. On Dec. 21, the Lunch Box Cafe will offer photos with Santa and free candy from 3-3:30p.Douds will also have a Christmas Lighting Contest.
Yoder's Indian Creek Furniture at 22769 Rte. V-64, Milton will have their annual Holiday Sale Dec. 14-Dec. 28. 10% off all items ordered or purchased in-stock (excludes outdoor furniture). Hours: Mon-Sat 8am-5pm. Closed Sundays and Dec. 25, Dec. 26, and Jan. 1.
Celebrate New Years Eve at the Roberts Building in Keosauqua for a New Years Eve Gospel Sing with groups and local talent performing 6-11pm. Supper is at 5:30pm (bring a dish to share).
