Bentonsport National Historic District

Once a thriving port of call on the Des Moines River, with an estimated population of 1,000, is now a much quieter town with a population of 40 residents and several quaint shops.  Many of these residents, and shops, still inhabit the original 1840's structures adding to the charm of this small town.  The picturesque village contains historic B&B's, Rental Cottages, Antique & Craft Shops, Local Artisans, & more!  An old truss bridge spans the Des Moines River and is now open to the public as a pedestrian bridge.  A beautiful Rose Garden, lovingly maintained by a force of volunteers, is housed in the former lock and dam.  Bentonsport has the honor of being designated a National Historic District.
