The Villages Folk School specializes in providing learning experiences in traditional arts and skills while drawing upon the uniqueness of each of the eleven historic Villages of Van Buren County Iowa. Classes are held in peaceful rural settings so students can return to a simpler time and witness the importance of the artisan in village-life. Pre-registration is required for classes.

Aug 6th » Keosauqua Farmers Market

The Keosauqua Farmers Market will have various vendors and even entertainment at times. The market will be held each Tuesday from 4-6pm through October 8, 2019. Watch for further details.

Aug 9th - Aug 11th » Donkey Sorting Series

Friday 7-9pm: Donkeys will be numbered up and in pens. People will be able to just ride and a chance for anyone new to get their horses used to the donkey. No admission fee.

Saturday 11am-3pm: Full arena sort. All teams will be drawn, the number of rounds will be determined by the number of people. Teams of 3 people. $15 a person will enter you in all the rounds for the day. You will also need a $5 wristband if you are not camping. Sign up will be 10-10:45am. There will be a Jackpot round at the end of the practice rounds. This will cost $5 a person and each person can enter 3 times.

Sunday 11am-3pm: Sort-n-pen. All teams will be drawn, the number of rounds will be determined by the number of people. Teams of 3 people. $15 a person will enter you in all the rounds for the day. There will be year-end awards for top 3 teams presented at the final sort for both full arena and sort-n-pen.

Aug 9th » Geode River Paddle

**REGISTRATION IS FULL**

Geodes are nature’s treasure chest! Participants will meet at the Bentonsport boat access. You will be paddling down a beautiful stretch of river. Between stops, you will search for geodes.   

Ryan Clark, a Geologist with the Iowa Geological Survey, will be leading the paddle as he talks about the geology of the river, why we can find geodes in that particular stretch of river and how geodes form.

There is no cost for the paddle, however, Pre-registration is required and participation is limited. Canoes will be available for loan if participants do not have their own canoe or kayak. The trip is open to all. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 

This is an official Des Moines River Water Trails event cosponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Jefferson County Conservation.

Aug 16th » Full Moon Float

**REGISTRATION IS FULL**

Paddle under the light of the Full Moon! Naturalist Brittney Tiller will lead participants out on the water as she interprets the various constellations and objects of the sky from the calm waters of the lake. The paddle will begin and end at the boat ramp on the lake. Any participants under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. 

This is an official Des Moines River Water Trails event cosponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Jefferson County Conservation. There is no cost for the clinic. Preregistration is required and participation is limited.

Join the State Hygienic Laboratory from the University of Iowa who will use various techniques including electroshocking, to collect and sample the aquatic life of the river.
