Building History

The building was originally built as a one-story home. (c. 1870) It was constructed of locally fired brick in a traditional architecture type along the Des Moines River which has become a folk home style. After 1947 it was converted to a commercial property. In succession, it was a telephone company, medical office for Doctors Worrell and Furomoto, and an insurance office. McCoy Insurance Service is responsible for the extensive restoration, the building underwent in the 1990s and the addition of the picket fence, landscaping and Van Buren County artifacts.
