Half of the proceeds will go to helping fund the annual Schuck Scholarships given to Van Buren County graduates heading to college. Help us raise some money for this great cause!

  • Team registration fee $200
  • Maximum of 8 teams accepted
  • 3 girl minimum on each team
  • First-round games for all teams on Friday, June 2nd starting at 6 pm
  • All other games on Saturday, June 3rd starting at 8 am
  • Team check-in 30 minutes before the team’s first game
  • 1-2 players from the losing team will ump the next game

The Villages Folk School specializes in providing learning experiences in traditional arts and skills while drawing upon the uniqueness of each of the eleven historic Villages of Van Buren County Iowa. Classes are held in peaceful rural settings so students can return to a simpler time and witness the importance of the artisan in village-life. Pre-registration is required for classes.

Jun 3rd » AMERICAN GOTHIC 5K

The race will start at the American Gothic House Center, run or walk down the hill and through the Wapello County Fair Grounds to the Des Moines River before heading back through town and up the American Gothic House Center trail. 

Registration fee after May 27th will be $25.00. includes map, medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places per age group divided into male/female categories. T-shirts will be ordered at the event to be distributed at a later date. Walk-ins are accepted.

Note: The registration form needs to be filled out and sent/brought to the American Gothic House Center with the $25 fee per participant on or before the race even if you register by email. Payment online is not accepted. If your registration will be sent by postal mail, the form and payment must be mailed before May 27th in order to reach the Center prior to the race and avoid problems on race day. Credit card payments may only be used by calling the AGHC at 641-652-3352 on or before June 2nd at 4:00 p.m. All payments made on race day need to be by check or in exact cash amount.

Activities will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Preregistration is required and all fees are due at least two weeks prior to the start of the program. Each camp has a theme with lessons and craft activities according to the subject.

All children who have not completed first grade must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older the entire time, as do all children requiring one-on-one aids while in school. There is no fee for attending adults. Programs are geared toward elementary grades and may be a bit advanced for younger children. All programs will begin and end at the American Gothic House Center and will be held rain or shine.

Jun 7th - Jun 9th » Donkey Sorting Series with Barrel Racing

Friday: Donkeys will be numbered up and in pens. People will be able to just ride and a chance for anyone new to get their horses used to the donkey. No admission fee.

Saturday: Full arena sort. All teams will be drawn, the number of rounds will be determined by the number of people. Teams of 3 people. $15 a person will enter you in all the rounds for the day. You will also need a $5 wristband if you are not camping. Sign-up will be 10-10:45am. There will be a Jackpot round at the end of the practice rounds. This will cost $5 a person and each person can enter 3 times.

Jun 24th - Jun 25th » Iowa Barn Foundation Van Buren County Barn Tour

The Iowa Barn Foundation is coming to Van Buren County for its spring tour which will be held in cooperation with Morris Park.   

Tour hours are 9:00-5:00 on both days, except where noted on individual barns. 

Lunch is available on Saturday at Morris Park (advance purchase recommended). 

Family activities and barn-related speakers will be present at Morris Park on both days. Activities include displays on barn preservation, barn construction techniques, horse-drawn wagon rides, naturalist educational displays, rug weaving, and more activities still being added.

Jun 24th » Bentonsport Heritage Day

Enjoy Bentonsport as it was in the 1850s. Historic homes, building and garden show, historic characters, wagon rides, games, live music, entertainers, shops' gift basket drawing, pre-1840s mountain men camp in riverside park.

Home, School, and Garden Tour 

Copies of the guide and wristbands are available at The Stone House and the BIA Pie Stand. Tickets are $10 for each person 14 years and older. Younger than 14 years are free.

Wagons will transport folks from one stop to the next every 15 minutes, or those taking the tour can walk at will. No transport is provided to the Vernon School House. To get there, cross the pedestrian bridge to Vernon and walk straight uphill to the school, or drive south on J-40 to the Vernon access road.

Visitors may drive to the Burton House Gardens 1.25 miles west on Hawk Drive. To visit The Whitaker Garden, drive uphill on Ridge Road past the Presbyterian Church to the first house on the left.

Destinations will all have Tour signs placed at the entrance.
