The Villages Folk School specializes in providing learning experiences in traditional arts and skills while drawing upon the uniqueness of each of the eleven historic Villages of Van Buren County, Iowa.
Classes are held in a peaceful rural setting, so students can return to a simpler time and witness the importance of the artisan in village life.
Enjoy Bentonsport as it was in the 1850s! Covered wagons will take visitors to meet 1850s characters throughout the day.
Enjoy craft demonstrations, food vendors, musicians The Galvanators and John Lee Boyer. Presentation in the Stone House at 2 p.m. about those who lived along the Lower Des Moines River before settlers arrived by Cherie Haury-Artz from U of I Archaeology Dept.
IF Severe Storm: The event will be moved to August 6th.
Potluck supper at 7pm in the shelter house. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Just bring your favorite Summer dish to share!
Have fun with great games: bags, ladder ball and old-fashioned lawn games before the movie Shazan at dusk! Everyone is welcome and don't forget to bring your chair or blanket
Ranch Horse Show Series - The fourth of the 2022 series. Jackpot sorting, roping, barrel racing, extreme trail course competition, wine tasting, dance, food concessions, and more. Camping is available on the grounds.
Enjoy a week of fun at the Van Buren County Fair! Featuring: Fair Queen Contest, 4-H and FFA exhibits all week long & more!

Some of the best painters in the tri-state region will gather to compete for cash and prizes in the 6th annual Villages Folk School’s plein air competition “Paint The Fair”.
Wednesday is Paint The Fair Workshop with Farley Lewis on the fairgrounds, Thursday, painters disperse across the county to paint in outdoor settings. Friday, painters work on the grounds with judging and public exhibit/reception at 5pm under the grandstands. Paintings will be for sale.
Kentucky Headhunters will be at the Van Buren County Fair!
