The Villages Folk School specializes in providing learning experiences in traditional arts and skills while drawing upon the uniqueness of each of the eleven historic Villages of Van Buren County, Iowa.

Classes are held in a peaceful rural setting, so students can return to a simpler time and witness the importance of the artisan in village life. Pre-registration is required for classes.

Mar 2nd » Van Buren County Conservation Bird Hike

Join Van Buren County Naturalist Chloe for a hike at Morris Park to explore and discover various bird species found in our local habitat. 

This mile hike will have various terrain types from moderate to difficult. This trail is grass and dirt, proper hiking attire and bug spray is recommended. We have a limited number of binoculars available if you don't have your own.

Registration is encouraged but not required.

Mar 6th » Rosie the Riveters of Iowa Presentation

Linda Betsinger McCann has been doing genealogy research for over 40 years. She gives genealogy the credit for her writing books on Iowa history. She has had 15 books about Iowa history published. “Rosie the Riveter was a promotional campaign to encourage women to go to work during World War II. The men had left jobs to fight in the war, and women were needed to fill those jobs. Iowa had 70 companies with military contracts during WWII. Linda was able to speak with 35 women who worked during the war. She shares their memories when she speaks.”
