Aug 3rd » Camel Hump Day in Bentonsport

In-store specials, activities for children and adults, Blank Park Zoo Mobile Unit will be giving 2 lectures with 2 animals from the zoo, and more.

10 am - TBD ~ Clara Camel & Harriet Hedge Hog Scavenger Hunt.

10 am - 11 am ~ Carnival Games for a small fee at the Rose Garden.

10 am - 11 am ~ Toddy Twist Animal Balloonist at the Rose Garden.

10 am - 12 pm ~ Horse Drawn Wagon Rides at the Boat Ramp.

10 am - 12:30 pm ~ Youth Entrepreneurs Market at the Shelter.

10 am - 1:30 pm ~ Van Buren County Naturalist Program (Guess Whose Fur & a Craft) at the Shelter.

11 am - 12:30 pm ~ Case Face Painting in the Rose Garden Area.

11 am - 1 pm ~ BLANK PARK ZOO MOBILE EDUCATIONAL UNIT - Two Lectures (Mammal & Reptile) in the Gazebo Area (Bring Blankets/Lawn Chairs).

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm ~ Lunch $6 (turkey or ham sandwiches, chips, fruit cup, cookie & fruit drink pouch or bottled water) in the Gazebo Area or bring your own picnic. ALL MONEY RAISED FROM LUNCH AND CARNIVAL, ASSISTS IN FUNDING THE ACTIVITIES AND ZOOS.  Call 319-592-3579 or text 641-233-7793 to ORDER Sack Lunches.

Have you ever wanted to try Dutch oven cooking? Join Chloe at the Lake Sugema campground to learn the basics of Dutch oven cooking and how to prepare meals for future camping adventures.
 
Remember to bring a camping chair to this event and sit around the campfire and bug spray is recommended. Kids 10 and under must be accompanied by a guardian. This event will be held in the non-reservable campsites at Lake Sugema.
 
Registration is REQUIRED, limited to 15 participants

The Villages Folk School specializes in providing learning experiences in traditional arts and skills while drawing upon the uniqueness of each of the eleven historic Villages of Van Buren County Iowa.

Classes are held in peaceful rural settings so students can return to a simpler time and witness the importance of the artisan in village-life. Pre-registration is required for classes.

It is a day filled with food, farm tours, open buggies and hay wagon rides, local artists, live music, pick flowers, history, mead & wine tasting, hand-crafted furniture, glass blowing, free homemade ice cream, and so much fun for the whole family!

Start the day with a delicious home-cooked breakfast at the Amish School {8am-Noon}, then wander the road to explore the different participating farms and businesses at {9am-4pm}.

Join Chloe at Lacey Keosauqua Beach House Lodge for a mile hike to discover various trees found in our local habitat and how to identify species. 

This mile hike will have various terrain types from moderate to difficult. This trail is gravel and timber so proper hiking attire and bug spray are recommended.

Registration is encouraged but not required.

Aug 17th - Aug 18th » Bike Van Buren XXXVIII

Enjoy a fun-filled weekend while exploring all of the historic Villages of Van Buren. This is a casual, family-oriented bicycle ride through Van Buren County, Iowa. You'll enjoy the best hospitality in Southeast, Iowa with SAG support and food/drink stops along the route.

The routes wind through our historic Villages nestled amongst the rolling hillsides including the "Historic Hills Scenic Byway." Total weekend mileage is approximately 100-200 miles in two days. Although the majority of the route is on sparsely traveled paved county roads, some sections include travel on state highways.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy good food and music from the American Gothic House porch!

Porchfest aka Music on the Porch is an annual music event held last Saturday in August across the United States, Canada, and beyond. Started in Ithaca, New York, in 2007, porchfest events bring local musicians and neighborhoods together to celebrate and create a sense of community by performing on porches. It was founded on the idea that "what if for one day we all just listened to the music?" 

Due to the Labor Day holiday, it will be celebrated on the third Saturday of August 2024.

Aug 30th - Sep 1st » Farmington’s Bluegrass Weekend Festival and Jam

The 2024 Performers are all booked, and we are already getting excited for another great weekend!

Lori King & Junction 63 as well as the Bluegrass Blondies will be playing again this year, with performances by The Baker Family and William Lawson!

Bigger and better this year is their goal! Keep the dates folks! You won't want to miss this Festival!

 All adult beverages need to either be in a tumbler or in a koozie. Please pack your lawn chairs or a blanket to set on. And most of all, come to enjoy and be happy. Spread the love of music with each other.
